About the event

Biological diversity at Lake Pfäffikon

For a week, we will work together in the nature reserve surrounding Lake Pfäffikon and experience nature in all its facets. The area around Lake Pfäffikon is one of the most valuable moorland landscapes in Switzerland and offers visitors many unforgettable natural experiences. The lake, with its largely natural shores and the surrounding lowland and raised moor areas, is home to many rare breeding bird species. It also boasts a highly valuable flora, including the sundew, a native carnivorous plant, and the highly valuable sphagnum moss. Due to its location and history, Lake Pfäffikon also offers many interesting geological and cultural-historical opportunities.

Outdoor Learning: Education and Teamwork

During the work, the students experience nature with all their senses and can forget about everyday life for a week. The work often requires teamwork and ingenuity from the students. This allows them to learn about their own limitations and possibilities and grow closer together as a class. Selected nature conservation projects, such as hedge trimming, are supplemented with background knowledge, thus reinforcing the learning effect. The combination of experiencing, observing, and understanding ensures that this environmental education week stays with the young people for a long time.

Sustainable insights: Deepening ecosystem understanding

Working in nature promotes and deepens our understanding of our sensitive ecosystems and the living creatures that live within them. Lake Pfäffikon, with its history of formation and its sensitive moorland, demonstrates the importance of a conscious approach to nature. Experiencing ecological management clarifies our understanding of nature conservation and reveals the integration of humans into the natural cycle.
