About the event
Domleschg - a hotspot of biodiversity
The Domleschg region impresses with its natural diversity and historic castles. The structurally rich landscape with dry-stone walls, hedges, and species-rich meadows provides a habitat for 120 apple varieties and rare orchids such as lobelia and Turk's cap orchid. Nature enthusiasts can spot the red-backed shrike, the wryneck, and, with a little luck, even the hoopoe. Through targeted control of invasive neophytes and the maintenance of alpine meadows and pastures, we actively contribute to the preservation of this valuable landscape. After a day's work, Lake Canova—one of the warmest bathing lakes in Graubünden—is an inviting place to relax, with water temperatures up to 24 degrees Celsius.
Nature experience and holistic learning
Through outdoor work, students experience nature with all their senses. They learn about native animal and plant species and explore local natural phenomena. Through playful, exploratory activities, excursions, and short presentations, they foster an understanding of complex ecosystem interrelationships.
Self-efficacy and teamwork
Combating neophytes and maintaining alpine pastures require perseverance, teamwork, and ingenuity. Students learn about their own capabilities and limitations and grow closer together as a class.
