Biological diversity in the Thurauen

For a week, we'll work together in the Thurauen Nature Reserve and experience nature in all its facets. The largest floodplain in the Central Plateau is a true paradise for bird and plant lovers. The restoration of the Thurauen has created highly valuable habitats for rare breeding birds such as the kingfisher and the little ringed plover. The adjacent light forests are like a journey back in time, providing insight into what the Central Plateau looked like a few hundred years ago. Many rare plant species thrive in the nutrient-poor meadows, such as the marsh orchid and the ragwort. A floodplain full of experiences for young and old.

Outdoor Learning: Education and Teamwork

During their work, the students experience nature with all their senses and become part of biodiversity conservation. The work often requires teamwork and ingenuity from the students. This allows them to learn about their own limitations and possibilities and to grow closer together as a class. Combating neophytes provides a powerful insight into the different functions and mechanisms of plants. The intensive study of a specific species allows them to gain new insights into nature and helps young people recognize the fascinating connections within nature.

Sustainable insights: Deepening ecosystem understanding

Working in nature promotes an understanding of our sensitive ecosystems and the creatures that live within them. The Thurauen floodplains provide optimal insight into an ecosystem teeming with biodiversity, which once comprised about 90% of the Central Plateau. Floodplains contain many different ecosystems and, due to their dynamic nature, are ideal for experiencing natural processes. This impressive landscape, combined with physical activity, creates an unforgettable week for the students.
