A home for the sand lizard
Julius Baer Social Days: Deployment in Landikon
On September 19, 15 motivated employees from Julius Bär arrived in Landikon. Under the guidance of environmental experts, they want to upgrade an old tank barrier along the S-Bahn line in order to create a habitat for the endangered sand lizard.
Division of labour: stone structures and clearing
One group transports rocks and builds a structure for reptiles, while the other group clears the tank barrier of bushes to create more light and warmth for the lizards. Removing brambles creates open green spaces for insects to feed on.
Motivation and catering
The weather is warm and sunny, the mood is good. Motivation is so high that the head of operations has to slow down the volunteers - because precision is just as important as muscle power when building the stone structures. During the lunch break there is a rich buffet with grilled food, cheese, vegetables and homemade syrup made from wild herbs.
Knowledge transfer: lecture on reptiles
After the lunch break there is a lecture about the reptiles of Switzerland. The volunteers learn which types of lizards there are and what ecological conditions they need. During the lecture, wall lizards scurry across the tank barrier, to everyone's delight.
