A stone lizard for the sand lizard
Finally, after a long break, a Schlieren festival took place again under the motto "Schliere laughs". Not only did the people of Schlieren have a lot to laugh about during the festival, but the sun also shone from the sky and nature had reason to laugh at the scout house. The arbeitseinsatz.ch team developed a special offer for the school classes in Schlieren to create a work of art made of stone for the sand lizard and nature.
For five days, 12 classes actively participated in building a stone lizard. Within two hours each, stone was layered upon stone, creating new habitat for reptiles, insects and amphibians. The students showed great skill in working with the stones and each stone was placed precisely. This means that the stone lizard will remain with the people of Schlieren for a long time to come. Thanks to various built-in caves, larger animals such as hedgehogs, weasels and other small animals will also find shelter in the stone lizard.
Cognitive food was also provided. Together with the environmental education experts from arbeitseinsatz.ch , various topics were discussed, such as the importance of ruderal areas for the environment or the specific needs and lifestyles of the sand lizard.
Thus, the Schlierenfest was not only a celebration of joy and a sense of community, but it also created the opportunity to talk about environmental issues and to raise awareness of environmental and habitat protection as well as sustainability among young people.
We would like to thank the students for their hard work and look forward to further work with the Schlieren schools. The school classes involved have not only created a lasting work of art but have also shown that everyone can make a contribution to biodiversity.
