A barrier is brought to life
Stormy working day at Fahr Monastery
Biting wind and gloomy weather surrounded the walls of the Fahr monastery on this day in early March. Nevertheless, around ten Econis AG employees showed up at the parking lot armed with energy and a zest for action. It was clear at first glance that they were ready to get to work. And that was a good thing - a busy afternoon of planting around 300 plants lay ahead of them.
Active involvement under expert guidance
The group wasted no time: Under the guidance of environmental experts, they eagerly grabbed shovels and hoes, dug holes and planted the plants. They attached these to the fence that separates a conventionally operated vineyard from an organic orchard. The first goal: to thicken the fence by planting greenery so that chemical-synthetic plant protection products and fertilizers cannot reach the organic cultivation area, for example through the wind. The second goal: to plant a hedge that promotes biodiversity by planting various plants such as ivy, roses and pollarded willows, which creates space for a natural network of different animal and plant species.
Education and fun: insights into ecological relationships
In addition to the work, physical and mental well-being were not neglected either: after strengthening their strength at the syrup bar, the team was able to experience first-hand how important the natural interaction between different species is. To do this, they took on different roles such as kestrel, dormouse, silk bee, willow or dog rose and formed a food web. It quickly became clear that some cannot survive without the others and that preserving biodiversity is an absolute necessity.
Successful day and pleasant ending
After the activity, the employees were even more motivated to get to work on the final stages of planting and rounded things off with watering. Thanks to the weather, they completed the work in no time at all before they were able to enjoy a cozy evening in the warm fondue parlor - earlier than expected. We would like to thank everyone involved for their great efforts!
