Strong together for urban ecology

After the summer holidays, schoolchildren from the Bernese Mittelland can experience a camp of a different kind. On Monday, after a long journey, they arrive at the Scout Center in Rüti ZH and move into their home for the week. In their suitcases, in addition to the usual things, they also have hiking boots, work trousers and work gloves. But the young people are not yet quite sure what they will need these things for.

To shed some light on the subject, the week begins with an introduction. During the week, the young people will work in the nature reserves of the town of Rüti ZH and make a contribution to the protection of nature. To ensure that these work assignments run smoothly, the students work together to develop the camp rules that apply to everyone during the week. But that is not the only important thing; an understanding of the necessity of the project week is also important. The young people are introduced to the meaning and purpose of the work in a playful way and their curiosity about the next few days is aroused.

On the first day, our team is surprised by the group's enthusiasm for work. With great teamwork, the class manages to complete the work twice as fast as planned. The planning is adjusted accordingly and the week's work is re-allocated. Since flexible planning of the work is important to us, we can respond to the needs of the different groups and react quickly to changes.
