The organization Arbeitseinsatz.ch has been successfully offering camp weeks with practical nature conservation missions since 2019. Due to a stronger focus on education for sustainable development (ESD) and the needs of secondary schools, the new offer "Action Biodiversity" has been developed. The focus here is on participation and integration into lessons: the students help plan and design the project week. A lasting experience for everyone involved!
Target group:
Secondary school students aged 15 – 18 years
Goals:
The main goal is to promote interdisciplinary skills in the sense of education for sustainable development. In addition, the students should acquire specialist skills in the areas of biodiversity, nature conservation and sustainability.
Period:
Preparation in classes begins in August and lasts until the camp week, which takes place from September 30 to October 4, 2024.
Preparation:
At the beginning of the school year, an employee from Arbeitseinsatz.ch visits the class (2 lessons) and conducts a mystery on the topic of biodiversity with the students. Working groups are then formed in which the students are to plan and implement their own project by the camp week. They receive a learning journal with assignments and help for this. Possible working groups are: public relations, catering, financing, research project, evening program, nature conservation in the field.
The self-directed development of the projects takes place between mid-August and the end of September. The time required is around 12 hours per student, part of which can be done as homework. The main supervision of the working groups lies with the teacher, and the technical support can be provided by Arbeitseinsatz.ch or a specialist teacher.
Location:
The camp takes place at Lake Pfäffikersee in the canton of Zurich. The lake is a nature reserve and is a popular recreational and excursion area. A reed and swamp zone is practically present around the entire lake. In the southern part of Lake Pfäffikersee, in the Robenhauser Riet, in particular, there is an impressive moor landscape. The moor and lake landscape of Lake Pfäffikersee in the Zurich Oberland is one of the most important wetlands in the Swiss Mittelland. Here you can find a large part of the plant communities of low, transitional and raised moors known in Switzerland in a small-scale mosaic.
