Biological diversity at Lake Pfäffikon
For a week we work together in the nature reserve around Lake Pfäffikon and experience nature in all its facets. The area around Lake Pfäffikon is one of the most valuable moor landscapes in Switzerland and offers visitors many unforgettable nature experiences. The lake with its largely natural lake shores and the surrounding flat and raised moor areas are home to many rare breeding bird species. There is also a very valuable flora, which includes the sundew, a native carnivorous plant, and the very valuable sphagnum moss. Due to its location and history, Lake Pfäffikon also offers many interesting geological and cultural-historical possibilities.
Outdoor learning: education and teamwork
During the work, the students experience nature with all their senses and can forget about everyday life for a week. The work often requires teamwork and the inventiveness of the students. In this way, they learn about their own limits and possibilities and grow closer together as a class. Selected nature conservation work, such as hedge maintenance, is supplemented with background knowledge, thereby strengthening the learning effect. The combination of experiencing, observing and understanding ensures that this environmental education week stays in the minds of the young people for a long time.
Sustainable insights: deepening ecosystem understanding
Working in nature promotes and deepens our understanding of our sensitive ecosystems and the creatures that live in them. Lake Pfäffikersee, with its history of formation and its sensitive moorland, shows the importance of dealing with nature in a conscious manner. By experiencing ecological management, the understanding of nature conservation becomes clearer and the integration of humans into the cycle of nature becomes apparent.
