Biological diversity in the Thurauen
For a week we will work together in the Thurauen nature reserve and experience nature in all its facets. The largest floodplain area in the Swiss Plateau is a true paradise for bird and plant lovers. The renaturation of the Thurauen has created very valuable habitats for rare breeding birds such as the kingfisher and the little ringed plover. The adjacent light forests are like a journey into the past and provide insight into what the Swiss Plateau looked like a few hundred years ago. Many rare plant species thrive on the lean meadows, such as the orchid or the ragwort orchid. A floodplain area full of experiences for young and old.
Outdoor learning: education and teamwork
During the work, the students experience nature with all their senses and become part of biodiversity protection. The work often requires teamwork and the inventiveness of the students. In this way, they learn about their own limits and possibilities and grow closer together as a class. Combating neophytes allows the different functions and mechanisms of plants to be understood in an impressive way. The intensive study of a species enables them to gather new impressions of nature and helps the young people to recognize the fascinating connections in nature.
Sustainable insights: deepening ecosystem understanding
Working in nature promotes an understanding of our sensitive ecosystems and the creatures that live in them. The Thurauen provide an optimal insight into an ecosystem that is bursting with biodiversity and used to make up about 90% of the Central Plateau. A floodplain area contains many different ecosystems and its dynamics make it ideal for experiencing natural processes. This impressive landscape, combined with physical effort, can create an unforgettable week for the students.
